Who we are
The Veterinary Students Society of Victoria (VSSV) is committed to fostering connections among veterinary students, faculty, and industry professionals through the organisation of social events and educational activities, while also serving as advocates for student concerns. The society is comprised of two committees, located in Parkville and Werribee, representing DVM1-2 and DVM3-4 students, respectively. These committees collaborate to fulfill the mission of the VSSV.
Beyond facilitating peer interactions, the VSSV serves as the student body's voice in discussions with faculty and acts as a liaison between the industry and students, striving to ensure the highest standards of veterinary education and industry exposure. The VSSV's mission is further supported by the Faculty of Science, the University of Melbourne Student Union (UMSU), the Graduate Student Association (GSA), and various industry sponsors.
Throughout the year, the VSSV organises numerous social events, including the Vet Ball, Barn Dance, Networking Dinner, and Halfway Dinner, along with various smaller social, sports, and well-being activities. A key benefit of the VSSV for our members is through offering discounts on branded merchandise. Our merchandise includes apparel for placements, professional polo shirts, and dissection kits, all designed to support students throughout their veterinary education
Our Special Interest Groups (SIGs) offer students the chance to delve into their specific interests, whether related to small animals, large animals, wildlife, exotics, or animal welfare. Each group organises events throughout the year and operates its own committees and meetings.
