In recognition of NAIDOC Week, we are pleased to present this year’s VSSV jumper design.
The artwork was created by Bridie Pitchford, a proud Palawa woman, who sought to develop a design that reflects both her cultural heritage and the local context of Naarm.
“Central to the design is Bunjil, the wedge-tailed eagle, who is recognised as the creator spirit of the Kulin Nations. Bunjil descended from the sky and shaped the land, waterways, flora, and fauna.
Within the depiction of Bunjil, linework symbolises smoke and meeting places beneath the stars. These elements represent community, connection, and the shared relationship between members of the veterinary cohort and the natural environment.
Three lines extending from Bunjil represent the One Health framework, emphasising the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health.
The colour palette draws on the Aboriginal flag, providing a unifying element that reinforces the cultural significance of the design.
